Doug Lonneman - Hilton Head Artist and Craftsman
Welcome to my Bio Page
My name is Doug Lonneman and I currently live in Hilton Head, the place my wife and I moved to in 2020. I retired from being an educator serving as both an art teacher and a school administrator. Before I got into education, I worked as a carpenter and home builder in Kentucky. I have always enjoyed making things with my hands especially doing stained glass and woodworking. While a principal in Ft. Thomas, I created sets for our school's junior high play along with our parents and students. This allowed me to combine teaching, art and construction in a very creative atmosphere. I then got into woodworking after building my own shop and started making furniture and building a large train display. After moving to Hilton Head, I was lucky enough to get involved with Full Spectrum Studio, the only art studio in South Carolina for adults with disabilities. As a volunteer, I was able to set up a small wood shop at the studio that I use to finish and compliment the artists' pieces. At the same time, I began doing some very fun things of my own including making large lanterns for the Hilton Head Lantern Parade, creating a float for the Shipyard Men's Club for the St. Patrick's Day Parade here on the island and my Hogwarts Train Layout. With all of these things going on, I keep very busy.
