In 2023, the Shipyard Men's Club asked me to make a float for the Hilton Head St. Patrick's Day Parade. I was lucky enough to borrow a trailer and began creating a frame for the float. The frame gave me a place to hang custom banners on the outside leaving the whole middle open for decorations. The first year, with a limited budget, I created a Shipyard sign for the back of my truck complete with flowers and a hat. I then cut and painted a leprechaun dancing on a large pot of gold for the center of the float. I used pvc pipe to create a rainbow that stretched from front to back to which we then attached green balloons. Everything but the banners was handmade and hand painted. I was very proud when we won the Irish Heritage Award and our kazoo band was a big hit.

For 2024, I added a large hat and some shamrocks to my truck. For the sides of the float, I made some 8' long rainbows topped with dancing leprechauns and ending in pots of gold. On the back sections, I made some cute sitting gnomes. This year we actually won the best float award!!!
